HOW

A VILLAGE CAN PROTECT A CHILD

$4.5 million.

That is the fundraising goal to assist Communify to build a purpose-built centre to protect our most vulnerable children who need our support.

Bindi Bindi Place will include approximately 450m2 of enclosed space, commercial kitchen, outdoor covered areas and play space.

The design of Bindi Bindi Place will incorporate areas of intellectual stimulation and connection, while simultaneously providing places of retreat and calm, for counselling and support.

A ‘cookie cutter’ or traditional day care model and approach to this centre will not work; these children have unique needs.

It needs to be a highly bespoke build to be effective as the design is an integral part of the therapy for the children and the families.

Ongoing, the majority of operational costs will be covered by families accessing the Commonwealth child wellbeing subsidy to support vulnerable children.

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority recognises the physical setting for care as the ‘third teacher’. The design concept is based on advice from early childhood psychiatrists and specialists in caring for vulnerable children and families. The design embeds principles of integrated subtropical landscape design to create a range calm and welcoming settings.
